Ismaila Sané (born 4.1.1956) is a Senegalese-born percussionist, singer, African ballet solo artist, choreographer and pedagogue. From 1981 to 1999, Sané lived in Spain, and since 1999 he has been domiciled in Finland. As well as his solo career, Sané is also known for his work in Finland with Piirpauke, Saïsba, Senfi, Galaxy and the Buddha Surfers, and in Spain for his collaboration with Global Perfussion, Baba Djembe and Mbalax. He has received a number of awards for his work including the 2005 Finland Prize. The Manj anaw – Know the Human – Tunne ihminen exhibition (Kirjasto 10, 2016) gave an account of Sané's incredible career and the man behind it all.
